Officials: Plane carrying first lady got too close to military C-17 19 Apr 2011 A plane carrying Michelle Obama had to abort its landing on Monday after it came too close to a military C-17 cargo plane, according to a senior administration official and the Federal Aviation Administration. The planes were three miles apart, when they are supposed to be five miles apart, the official told CNN. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating what went wrong, as it is believed to be an air traffic controller mistake, the official said.

The armed forces, numbering 1,000, would be deployed to secure the delivery of aid supplies steal oil, would not be engaged in a combat role but would be authorised to fight if they or their humanitarian wards were threatened. "It would be to secure sea and land corridors inside the country," said an EU official.

The Queen's Britain risks accusations of 'mission creep' as army chiefs are sent to Benghazi to offer military advice to rebels fighting Gaddafi --The Queen's Army officers will advise rebels how to launch attacks --Similarities drawn to past conflicts in Vietnam, Somalia and Afghanistan 19 Apr 2011 A team of the Queen's  top British Army officers is being sent to Libya to advise 'rebels' who are locked in a bitter conflict with Colonel Gaddafi's forces [for oil]. The UK group will be deployed to the opposition stronghold of Benghazi, Libya's second city, in a mentoring role to help leaders who are co-ordinating attacks on the Colonel's army. The announcement came after the Queen's Royal Navy submarine launched cruise missiles on Libyan targets, with the Queen's RAF warplanes attacking communication masts.

The Queen's Britain denies 'mission creep' in sending advisers to Libya 19 Apr 2011 the Queen's British military advisers will follow American CIA teams already deployed in Libya as part of the broad Western effort – beyond any UN mandate – to help rebel forces oust Colonel Moammar Gadhafi. Mission creep is denied, nonetheless. The Queen's British advisers will take handguns but leave their uniforms at home to preserve the appearance that foreign forces are not deploying to Libya. "We will now move quickly to expand the team already in Benghazi to include an additional military liaison advisory team," The Queen's British Foreign Secretary William Hague said.

Secret memos expose link between oil firms and invasion of Iraq 19 Apr 2011 Plans to exploit Iraq's oil reserves were discussed by government ministers and the world's largest oil companies the year before Britain took a leading role in invading Iraq, government documents show. The papers, revealed here for the first time, raise new questions over Britain's involvement in the war, which had divided Tony Blair's cabinet and was voted through only after his claims that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The minutes of a series of meetings between ministers and senior oil executives are at odds with the public denials of self-interest from oil companies and Western governments at the time.

31 injured in Iraq's Sulaymanieh 19 Apr 2011 At least 31 people have been injured in fresh clashes that erupted between protesters and security forces in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. Three of the injured were shot at with live bullet near Sulaymaniyah University, located 260 kilometers (161 miles) north of Baghdad, a Press TV correspondent reported on Tuesday. A number of journalists have also been arrested. [Of course they were. That's what happens when US unsubs establish a dictatorship for Exxon Mobil and Monsanto. Saddam Hussein: *Clearly* the better deal. Oh. Qaddafi, too.]

Afghanistan should brace for more assassinations: U.S. envoy [Gee, I wonder how he *knows* this? It reminds me of the BBC reporting that Building 7 fell before it, you know, *fell.*] 19 Apr 2011 Afghanistan's government and foreign troops should prepare for the Taliban to step up urban suicide attacks and assassinations as they shift tactics to "very focused" terrorism [by Blackwater], the U.S. ambassador said. Karl Eikenberry told Reuters in an interview that three insurgent attacks in just four days pointed to a change in strategy following setbacks against international and Afghan security forces.

Taliban attack signals focus on infiltrating security forces 18 Apr 2011 A man dressed in an Afghan military uniform entered the Ministry of Defense in Kabul Monday and opened fire, killing at least two people and injuring seven. The incident marks the third time in four days that an attacker dressed in an Afghan police or military uniform has infiltrated a secure compound and carried out a lethal attack. The wave of killings has created speculation that insurgents may be shifting their focus away from direct engagements with NATO and Afghan forces and investing their resources in infiltrating Afghanistan's security forces so they can carry out complex suicide attacks.

Jeh Johnson, the Pentagon general counsel, told reporters the military decided to move Pfc. Bradley Manning, 23, to Leavenworth's state-of-the-art Joint Regional Correctional Facility... Johnson said the transfer was not prompted by outcry over conditions at the Quantico facility, which have drawn protests from several international human rights groups and representatives of German and U.K. governments and allegations that the military has violated Manning's basic human rights.

Bradley Manning to be moved to Fort Leavenworth prison after criticism --Bradley Manning, accused of leaking classified material, is to be moved after international condemnation of his treatment 19 Apr 2011 Bradley Manning, the soldier being held on suspicion of leaking classified material to Wikileaks, is being moved to a different prison after what the Associated Press describes as "international criticism about his treatment". Manning had been held at the brig of the US Marine base in Quantico, in Virginia, since July last year in conditions that have been described as "inhumane", while Amnesty International has said that Manning's treatment potentially violates his human rights.

In one cable, Rice spoke with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon repeatedly on May 4, 2009 to urge him to block an inquiry into Israel's attacks on UN sites in Gaza.

Heads up! Royal wedding false flags are coming fast and furious: Britain's Security Blanket for Royal Wedding Terror Triple Threat --England Threat Level 'Severe' 19 Apr 2011 Vigilant British authorities have built multiple layers of heavy security around the parade route Prince William and Kate Middleton will take for their April 29 royal wedding. The so-called "ring of steel" will guard against potential terror threats to the royal couple from Al Qaeda [al-CIAduh], anarchists and IRA splinter groups, among others. From making full use of London's robust closed circuit television (CCTV) camera system, to dispatching hundreds of undercover police officers and even inspecting and sealing sewer drains, authorities are pulling out all stops to protect the prince, the future princess and the throngs of spectators expected to turn out for the wedding procession, officials told ABC News. Though there has been no specific threat against the wedding, bomb-sniffing dogs, hazardous material teams, riot police and roof-top snipers will be dispatched on the day of the ceremony, and foreign intelligence services will also be participating in the massive security effort, they said.

"Whether Scotland Yard gives us permission or not is irrelevant," a spokesman for the group "Muslims Against Crusades" told ABC News today. [It already *is* a nightmare: Think of the millions£ wasted on this garbage by the UK taxpayers. --LRP]

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said the threat of violence [by the Reichwing] was too great to allow Terry Jones to hold the planned gathering on Friday near the Islamic Center of America -- the largest U.S. mosque -- in the heavily Muslim Detroit suburb of Dearborn.

Tenn. sponsor moves ahead with anti-terrorism bill 19 Apr 2011 The Senate sponsor of an amended Tennessee proposal that seeks to prevent support for terrorist acts said Tuesday he's moving forward with the legislation despite opponents who say it's unnecessary and still unfairly targets Muslims. The original proposal by Republican Sen. Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro sought to make it a felony to follow some versions of the Islamic code known as Shariah. It gave the state's attorney general authority to designate an entity a "Shariah organization" if he finds the group knowingly adheres to Shariah, which the legislation defined as "any rule, precept, instruction, or edict arising directly from the extant rulings of any of the authoritative schools of Islamic jurisprudence of Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali, Ja'afariya, or Salafi."

The Kyodo News agency said one plan would raise electricity customers' charges to help cover claims against Tokyo Electric Power Co. from people who suffer losses from the crisis at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant.

Do US nuclear plants have defective parts? NRC finds reporting flaws 19 Apr 2011 A large fraction of the nation's nuclear power plant operators -- 28 percent -- did not tell federal regulators about failures of defective parts that could lead to major safety problems in other reactors across the country, according to a new report Friday by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's inspector general. As a result, industry watchdogs say, some power plant operators may unknowingly be operating nuclear reactors with defective parts.

The 29-19 vote means that some of the state's fastest-growing cities no longer will be required to collectively bargain with sanitation workers and other non-uniformed workers. The measure already passed the Oklahoma House and now goes to Governor Mary Fallin, a Republican, who is expected to sign it into law.
