NBA Delegation to meet Governor at Bhopal today

Adivasis and Farmers seek implementation of PESA in Narmada valley 

Resist illegal push to dams and canals, without rehabilitation

A delegation of adivasis and farmers affected by the Narmada projects, including the Sardar Sarovar, Jobat and the massive canals, accompanied by Dr. Brahmadev Sharma, former Chairperson, National SC & ST Commission and Ms. Medha Patkar, Founder-Activist, Narmada Bachao Andolan held a Press Conference at Apsara (Ravindra Bhavan) in Bhopal today. They flagged the issues of severe contempt of the role and rights of Gram Sabhas in the Narmada valley, non-implementation of the PESA Act, 1996 and illegal push to the Dams and canal work without full rehabilitation with land of the oustees etc.  

The delegation would also meet the Hon'ble Governor later in the evening and discuss these significant issues including enforcement of PESA Act, 1996 in Madhya Pradesh; status of Panchayat Raj Act vis-à-vis PESA, with specific reference to non-implementation in the case of Narmada Projects, interpretation and Special Official Orders for Narmada Projects on PESA, serious violation of the right to life, livelihood and dignity of adivasis affected by Sardar Sarovar and Jobat Dams and the massive Indira Sagar and Omlkarshwar canals; need for immediate intervention of the Hon'ble Governor under Schedule V of the Constitution, Judgement of the Jabalpur High Court on Gram Sabha rights and other Supreme Court's directives.

The members of the delegation include Sachin Jain, Advisor to Supreme Court's Commissioners - Right to Food (M.P.), Surbhan Bhilala (SSP affected hilly adivasi, Alirajpur Dist.), Gokhru Barela (SSP affected hilly adivasi, Badwani Dist.), Kailash Awasya (SSP affected adivasi, Alirajpur Dist.), Idibai (Jobat Dam affected adivasi woman, Alirajpur Dist) , Kuwarsing (Jobat Dam affected adivasi, Alirajpur Dist), Pemabhai (SSP affected adivasi, Badwani Dist.), Kamla Yadav (SSP affected woman, Badwani), Jalal (Canal affected adivasi, Badwani dist), Devram Kanera (SSP affected farmer Dhar Dist.), Mohan Patidar (SSP affected farmer, Dhar Dist.) and Shrikanth (NBA activist)
