Witness says Army offered him cash to 'infiltrate' WikiLeaks 01 Aug 2010 Before the online site WikiLeaks published a trove of classified documents about the Afghanistan war, government investigators interviewed Boston-area acquaintances of a military analyst charged with providing other documents to the site in an effort to prevent additional leaks, according to one person interviewed in the probe. The investigators from the Army and the State Department seemed to be "looking for classified documents that they thought to be in the Boston area," said the acquaintance... The man, a computer expert who met Pfc. Bradley E. Manning in January, said he told the investigators in mid-June that he knew of no such documents. The interview was among at least two investigators conducted in the Boston area after Manning was accused of giving WikiLeaks State Department cables and a video of a helicopter attack in which unarmed civilians were killed in Baghdad [by US forces]. The computer expert also said the Army offered him cash to, in his word, "infiltrate" WikiLeaks.

'Manning's legal future is complex.' Military airstrike video leak suspect in solitary confinement 31 Jul 2010 The Army private charged with leaking an airstrike video and downloading documents remained in solitary confinement Saturday. Military officials told CNN that Pfc. Bradley Manning is also the prime suspect in the latest leak of documents to the WikiLeaks website. ("Manning was routinely processed" whatever does that sinister statement suggest I wonder!! William Gladys-London August 2010)Thursday at the Quantico detention facility, a military spokesman said Friday.

Arrest warrants issued for US soldiers 30 Jul 2010 In Spain, a judge has re-issued arrest warrants for three US soldiers over the killing of a Spanish TV cameraman who died in US tank fire in Iraq in 2003. Spain's National Court announced Thursday that it has re-issued an the arrest warrants because the soldiers are implicated in an attack on Baghdad's Hotel Palestine, where Jose Couso along with dozens of other journalists were based during the Iraq war, Time reported.

Failure of the American Jewry

By Dr. Habib Siddiqui

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Voicing any fair criticism of Israel these days is hazardous. You are sure to be dumped as an anti-Semite. And this labeling is often so loosely used that it is unfair to all Arabs, and surely to some (so-called self-hating) Jews, who trace their bloodline to Abraham and Jacob, respectively. But who cares those facts? To many die-hard Zionists the single litmus test is: does the person support the state of Israel unquestioningly? Any slight criticism is not tolerated by these self-described guardians of the Jewish state, in spite of the fact that things are not that beautiful or glamorous under the dirty and rotten rug of Israel.

Peter Beinart, an Associate Professor of Journalism and Political Science at the City University of New York and a Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation, recently wrote an important article "The Failure of the American Jewish Establishment" in The New York Review of Books. He deplored the fact that the leading institutions of American Jewry discourage any broad discussion of the Palestine-Israel conflict and would rather check "their liberalism at Zionism's door." They are afraid to be critical of the conduct of the Israeli leaders. Such an attitude has only emboldened the Zionists in Israel to feel untouchable -- i.e., outside the reaches of international laws and obligations -- with their savage crimes against the Palestinian people.

Fwd: [bangla-vision] Weapon of mass destruction - our road

It was my mother who lost almost all her mundane beings and spent every moment in fear and anxiety of death or attack while my two teen aged brothers fighting somewhere or preparing for ambush and my father on his toes hiding in some distant relatives house. These two boys were in their bravery, exited to make next ambush, fearless and happy to be part of it, for them life was adventure. But it was not so for my mother, whole nine months, and for my father -it was his own life, his two best possessions and his entire family. Who sacrificed more, who suffered most and who ripped the benefits?

40 years on we have 40km road block(Dhaka, Chittagong highway on 30th July) to move from one city to another. Not clogged road under the sky but kept and maintained as 'weapon of much destruction'. 55 thousand people were killed in 15 years and 12 people daily. No one to see to these no one to give us a road to walk safely. These roads are manned by machinery in perfect machination of obstruction, snatch, small and big loot and above all threat and intimidation. This machinery is set up by the statecraft by changing and enacting policies under their own freedom and whim. They are the supreme authority yet people make believe that, when people die they grief, offer sermons.
And we are taking their sermons often in the spirit of my parent's sacrifice, with a pretense of sadness and grief. Sarcastics and insulting gesture of our supreme leaders.
So far neither we could take on to any of those who obstructed the road traffic, collecting tolls, allowing illegal and unauthorized vehicles to ply without any kind of road discipline. What a heaven created for illicit operations by vetting human lives. So many people already gone and everyday getting killed, a nation often boast about its media, intelligentia, civil right, human right groups, claims to remain vigil against all perpetrators could not or did not stop a single mishaps. When statecraft run by mafia and there henchmen, the regulators or supervisors can't be present and working for people.
The latest sacrifice made for prosperous Bangladesh is two highest officials from our bureaucracy, only yesterday. I wouldn't write emotional stories(how there kith and kin cried and yelled) like some news media handcrafted and compare their offspring's agony, fear and anxiety with my mother's during 1971. Outrageous enough these two officials were part of the supreme leader's state program.
They were trained as official for more than 30years for nation's service. Gone without notice. Who cares. Hundreds of highly trained military were killed in peace time, cars and helicopters started colliding with electric wires only to kill the GOC's or big officials. As if statecraft is on vacation before their summer drill.
Killed are usually buried, those alive grief, make statements then carry on as usual. So is the human face in our part, a brute, uncompassionate and careless characteristics and days on, getting solidifying.
If someone think of blaming(to come out as good guy) he/she follows no intelligence or human rule.
Only few days back the very well known writer's mother were given an empty oxygen bottle to breath inside ICU in a well known hospital and noticed by the writer himself, not by the attending nurse and mother did not die. The writer was charges with taka 80,000 (eighty thousand taka) for the maltreatment. Went home and perhaps started writing another piece of his writing on whatever he right best and whole community cheers with him. This mother has another two bright, well known, well established sons.

To me artists means a special creatures who can only think of his beauty, body, sex, money and fame, else not a matter. They learn how to enjoy life and bocome ruthlessly materialistic, yet if fall sick had to beg even after a very colourful career. Elizabeth Tellor enjoyed her life, married 9 times, earned two Oscars yet raised millions for suffering people and often sided with fellow artists to help in need. It is only Eliyas Kanchon shown some wisdom after his wife's tragic road accident and only person who is after so many years, still obsessed with the cause, continuing his own endeavor.
But the monstrous authority that control everything, often using their own truck driver to kill their opponent can not be tamed or bring into account by endeavor of Kanchon!
We do not have voice (imagine the same writer wrote an article how a man was killed on the eve of a recent hartal and kept mum on the negligence that is also taking many lives everyday and about to take his own mother, oi je political mileage), we do not have literature, we have lost our sovereignty, lost our morals and values what we remain with that only matches the media that write stories to sell, writers novel about free sex and materiality of life and gossip of those so called right activists.
My mother is long gone, gone are the two bright hard earned assets of this dilapidated statecraft, their sacrifice or blood has no value to this nation.

M Haque

The best comments

xRx-force says: July 30, 2010 at 12:50 am By looking at RAW performance in Mumbai attacks, I am not agree with writer of this blog to rank RAW in top ten agencies. Accusing others is very easy, like India did to Pakistan in case of Mumbai attack. But proving yourself as one of the best agency in the world is to WORK SILENTLY, ANALYZING, RECORDING, AND THEN STRIKING is a good strategy, rather accuse Pakistan in less than half an hour or so…MOSSAD and ISI, no doubt are the two best agencies in the world fighting and working against multiple counterparts. Never heard any news of failure of their missions…. but I give credit to Pakistani agency which with political collapse, financial crises, enemies inside and outside Pakistan, standing upright, firm and determinant, fully loyal to national affairs and trusted by the people of Pakistan.

ISI Tops 10 Best Intelligence Agencies In The World

SmashingLists.com calls it 'least funded, yet the strongest'

Sunday, 1 August 2010.

Topping the Top Ten? "ISI for sure,' says Gren, "No double agents, no agent ever caught on camera, the lowest budget but still affective. In war with 6 big intelligence agencies of the world. ISI has even countered MOSSAD in the 1980s and late '90s when there was a plan of a possible strike on Pakistan's nukes."

"It has to be the ISI" says John Smith on the Web site. "It broke down the Soviet Union (which also led to the reunification of Germany; the German Intelligence Chief gave a piece of the Berlin Wall to the Pakistani Intel Chief with a plaque under it saying, 'To the one who struck the first blow'), has protected and developed the country's nuclear assets against all odds, has defeated Al Qaeda/Taliban especially these days with the capture of Baradar, etc. by the ISI, has deep ingress into India. No other agency matches it in efficiency, precision, discipline and professionalism."

For more than twenty years, the existence of the agency was a secret even from its own government. Research and Analysis Wing is India's external intelligence agency. It was formed in September 1968, after the newly independent Republic of India was faced with 2 consecutive wars, the Sino-Indian war of 1962 and the India-Pakistani war of 1965, as it was evident that a credible intelligence gathering setup was lacking. Its primary function is collection of external intelligence, counter-terrorism and covert operations. In addition, it is responsible for obtaining and analyzing information about foreign governments, corporations, and persons, in order to advise Indian foreign policymakers. Until the creation of R&AW, the Intelligence Bureau handled both internal and external intelligence.

The General Directorate for External Security (DGSE) of France has a rather short history compared to other intelligence agencies in the region. The FSB is responsible for internal security of the Russian state, counterespionage, and the fight against organized crime, terrorism, and drug smuggling. Ministry of State Security is the security agency of the People's Republic of China. It is also probably the Chinese government's largest and most active foreign intelligence agency, though it is also involved in domestic security matters. Article 4 of the Criminal Procedure Law gives the MSS the same authority to arrest or detain people as regular police for crimes involving state security with identical supervision by the procuratorates and the courts. It is headquartered near the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China in Beijing. According to Liu Fuzhi, Secretary-General of the Commission for Politics and Law under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Public Security, the mission of the MSS is to ensure "the security of the state through effective measures against enemy agents, spies, and counter-revolutionary activities designed to sabotage or overthrow China's socialist system."  One of the primary missions of the MSS is undoubtedly to gather foreign intelligence from targets in various countries overseas. Many MSS agents are said to have operated in the Greater China region (Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) and to have integrated themselves into the world's numerous overseas Chinese communities. At one point, nearly 120 agents who had been operating under non-official cover in the U.S., Canada, Western and Northern Europe, and Japan as businessmen, bankers, scholars, and journalists were recalled to China, a fact that demonstrates the broad geographical scope of MSS agent coverage.

The Rt Hon. William Hague MP, Foreign Secretary

Agency executive

Sir John Sawers KCMG, Director General

Parent agency

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The British have had a long public perception of an effective intelligence agency (due to the success of the unrealistic, yet entertaining, James Bond movies). This perception matches reality. MI6, the British equivalent to the CIA, has had two big advantages in staying effective: The British Official Secrets Act and D notices can often prevent leaks (which have been the bane of the CIA's existence). Some stories have emerged. In the Cold War, MI6 recruited Oleg Penkovsky, who played a key part in the favorable resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Oleg Gordievski, who operated for a decade before MI6 extracted him via Finland. The British were even aware of Norwood's activities, but made the decision not to tip their hand. MI6 also is rumored to have sabotaged the Tu-144 supersonic airliner program by altering documents and making sure they fell into the hands of the KGB.

2. Mossad – Israel

http://www.smashinglists.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/israel_mossad-600x355.jpg

Formed

December 13, 1949 as the Central Institute for Coordination

Employees

1,200 (est)

Agency executive

Meir Dagan, Director

Parent agency

Office of the Prime Minister

The Mossad is responsible for intelligence collection and covert operations including paramilitary activities. It is one of the main entities in the Israeli Intelligence Community, along with Aman (military intelligence) and Shin Bet (internal security), but its director reports directly to the Prime Minister. The list of its successes is long. Israel's intelligence agency is most famous for having taken out a number of PLO operatives in retaliation for the attack that killed eleven Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic games in Munich. However, this agency has other success to its name, including the acquisition of a MiG-21 prior to the Six-Day war of 1967 and the theft of the plans for the Mirage 5 after the deal with France went sour. Mossad also assisted the United States in supporting Solidarity in Poland during the 1980s.

1. ISI – Pakistan

Pakistan ISI

Formed

1948

Jurisdiction

Government of Pakistan

Headquarters

Islamabad, Pakistan

Agency executive

Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, PA Director General

With the lengthiest track record of success, the best known Intelligence so far on the scale of records is ISI. The Inter-Services Intelligence was created as an independent unit in 1948 in order to strengthen the performance of Pakistan's Military Intelligence during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1948. Its success in achieving its goal without leading to a full scale invasion of Pakistan by the Soviets is a feat unmatched by any other throughout the intelligence world. KGB, the best of its time, failed to counter ISI and protect Soviet interests in Central Asia. This GOLD MEDAL makes it rank higher than Mossad. It has had 0 double agents or Defectors throughout its history, considering that in light of the whole war campaign it carried out from money earned by selling drugs bought from the very people it was bleeding, the Soviets. It has protected its Nuclear Weapons and it has foiled Indian attempts to attain ultimate supremacy in the South-Asian theatres through internal destabilization of India. It is above all laws in its host country Pakistan 'A State, within a State'. Its policies are made 'outside' of all other institutions with the exception of The Army. Its personnel have never been caught on camera. It is believed to have the highest number of agents worldwide, close to 10,000. The most striking thing is that it's one of the least funded Intelligence agencies out of the top 10 and still the strongest.

Occupied Kashmir - Protest, Bloodpath Continue! Shame on Silent International Bodies!!!!

Protests, Bloodbath Continue

Srinagar, July 31, KONS- Two more Kashmiris were killed on Saturday and hundreds wounded, many of them hit with bullets, as police and paramilitary forces again opened fire to crush massive protest demonstrations that continued across length and breadth of Kashmir valley for the second day running.

Thousands of Kashmiris, undeterred by a stringent curfew, took to streets in almost all major towns and small townships across Kashmir, a day after four persons were shot dead by the government forces during massive pro-Azadi demonstrations in Sopore and Pattan.
Enraged at the latest killings protesters ransacked a camp of dreaded Special Operations Group of J&K Police in Kreeri, torched CRPF bunkers in Sangam and Bijbehara, tried to set a railway station on fire in Sopore and clashed with government forces virtually turning the streets across Kashmir into a battle ground.
Police and paramilitary forces almost every where resorted to massive use of force to quell the raging protests, however without any success.
Reports of widespread defiance of curfew has come in from Baramulla, Sopore, Sangrama, Pattan, Sumbal,Bandipora, Tangmarg, Awantipora, Pampore, Sangam, Bijbehara, Tral, Shopian, Ganderbal, Budgam and uptown Srinagar.
The protesters in capital clashed with paramilitary forces in curfew bound Bemina, Padshahi Bagh, Hyderpora and several areas of the old city.   Eight people including two women were hit by bullets.

As the Kreeri news reached Baramulla people defying curfew came out of their houses in large numbers. Chanting anti-India slogans they clashed with paramilitary forces and police at Cement and old Bridges. The clashes soon spread to other areas including Old Town where government forces opened fire on crowds after heavy teargas shelling failed to disperse them. Reports said a bullet hit 22 year old Javed Ahmed Teli in the head injuring him critically. Doctors referred critically injured Javed to Soura Medical institute Srinagar, some 60 kms away. He however breathed his last on way to hospital.
When news of Javed's death reached the town fresh wave of protests erupted. Police again opened fire this time injuring seven more protesters.
High tension was prevailing in the town Town and police had not handed over the body to the family for last rites till reports last came in late Saturday night.
In nearby Sopore town, where two people had died in police firing yesterday , thousands of enraged residents defied curfew and held massive anti-India demonstrations.
Again people turned violent when police and paramilitary forces appeared on the scene. Amidst clashes large number of youth attacked the local Railway Station and set it on fire.
Police again resorted to firing resulting in injuries to at least twelve persons. Two of the  injured youth identified as Freroz Ahmad Shah and Muhammad Aamir were said to be in serious condition.
In Sangrama one Muhamad Iqbal Rathar (23) was seriously wounded when CRPF personnel opened fire after their bunker was rained with stones by the angry crowds.
In Naidkhai area of Sumbal in Bandipur district a large procession was taken out in defiance of curfew. Quoting eyewitnesses KNS said protesters clashed with paramilitary forces after they resorted to heavy cane charge and tear gas shelling on the procession.
Enraged at the forces' action protesters retaliated by attacking a camp of 14th battalion of the Indain Reserve Police (IRP).
Police opened fire killing one Mudassir Ahmad Lone, a 20 year old local youth, on the spot. Two more youth Showkat Ahmad and Shabir Ahmad have been wounded in the firing.
Resultant clashes fuelled further by the police firing left at least twenty more persons injured. The injured included SP of police.
Infuriated crowds also besieged the local police station and held scores of policemen inside hostage for several hours.
Reports said police and CRPF personnel later entered dozens of homes ransacking the house hold gods and beating up inmates.
Violence also broke out in Pampore, 16 kms from here, where locals attacked policemen. At Pantachowk, near Indian army's biggest cantonment in the valley, thousands of people blocked the sole national highway connecting Kashmir with rest of India for several hours.

Commonwealth Games: Are we playing a cruel joke?

By Soroor Ahmed, TwoCircles.net,

We know that Delhi has been virtually made beggar-free on the eve of the Commonwealth Games as their presence would show the country in a poor light. But we do not know how much India has begged to host the 2010 sporting extravaganza in its capital? We know that an advanced country like Canada had to wait for 30 long years to pay back the loans it took for organizing 1976 Montreal Olympics. But we do not know how long will India take to return the money it borrows for such events. And finally the entire world knows that today poor Greece is a bankrupt nation and the economists are almost unanimous in blaming the 2004 Athens Olympics for this disaster.

However, thanks to the former Union minister of Sports, Mani Shankar Aiyar, a large section of countrymen and women now know that India will be spending something around Rs 35,000 crore on this 12-day long sporting event between October 3 and 14.

While Aiyar, a columnist and a Rajya Sabha MP of the ruling Congress party, told newspersons outside Parliament on July 27 that he would be unhappy if the Commonwealth Games succeeds others in India may not share his view in toto. But then very few right-thinking people would agree with the rebuttal of the Chairman of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Suresh Kalmadi, who dubbed his remarks as 'irresponsible' and 'anti-national'.

While the expression anti-national definitely needs a better definition Aiyar, as a responsible citizen, has every right to ask "if the Commonwealth Games are successful, they will further organise Asian Games and other events."

In a democracy he has the right to say "Just imagine if we would have spent the Rs 35,000 crore in providing training to the children, we would have won medals in every international sporting event."

There may be no dearth of people who would not appreciate the tone and tenor of his statement but he has emerged as the man who had at least triggered a debate on the wasteful expenditure in the country where 77 per cent survives on less than half a dollar a day––or mere Rs 20.

True there are ways to promote games and sports, but may one ask whether the tally of medals have increased in Olympics or other international competition in the last four decades when we have hosted so many international events––the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games etc. Instead except cricket––and possibly lawn tennis and badminton due to individual brilliance––we have gone from bad to worse. We have lost the game of hockey and our athlete are no match to that of many tiny Third World countries––not to speak of China, Japan or Koreas, and of course West.

We have hundreds of literally starving former sportsmen and women running tea-stalls, pulling rickshaws or driving autos or working as fourth grade employees in any unorganize sector. Yet in this poor country the game of rich––cricket, lawn tennis, badminton––get promotion and sponsor. Nobody bothers to bring back the footballing glory at least at the Asian Games level––though it is the game of poor.

This electricity-starved country is busy building stadium after stadium with flood-light arrangements, most of them to play day-night matches and IPL tournament. Can n't these games be played in the day time as in the past? We do not have electricity for our irrigation and for the study of children. Most of our towns are just areas of darkness. During 2007 Champions Cup Cricket Tournament when Jaipur was hosting day-night match after match villagers in Sriganganagar in the same state, Rajasthan, were protesting for lack of irrigation facilities. In fact one of them even got killed in the police firing.

While we are unable to rehabilitate and pay compensation to lakhs of people displaced for constructing dams in the name of producing electricity we are trying our level best to compete with countries which has surplus-power and water.

Our misplaced priority to compete with West and China is driving many in our establishment crazy. We do not want to learn how badly events like Olympics or World Cups have bled the economy of the countries like Canada, Greece and many others white.

For Commonwealth Games, which is nothing but a symbol of British slavery, we will built beautiful stadiums for many of the games which is not played in India. And we all know what will happen to them after the 12-day sporting jamboree––they will simply fall into disuse.

Like Commonwealth Games the Olympics are nothing but the way to assert the westernism over rest of the world. The very notion of reviving the Games in 1896 in Athens is to restore the glory of European West. Since the Christianized Europe has nothing to boast of in 2,000 years of history it fell back on the pre-Christian pagan era to revive its so-called supremacy. Thus if Olympic reminds the world of the western concept of superiority the Commonwealth Games recalls the so-called grandeur and magnificence of the British Raj. And perhaps no country paid the price of these false pretense as dearly as Greece itself. It was neither in the position of holding such show in 1896 nor in 2004, yet was encouraged and even helped by the western masters to do so for obvious reasons.

But then such huge events are reality now and one can not simply wish them away. What we need is to understand the larger design behind them, take part in them, make players more competitive and win more and more medals.

However, we in India, instead of improving our sports get trapped into the agenda of those who are running the show. We go beyond our means to build colossal infrastructure costing thousands of crores just for the players of other countries to play and win medals.
