Unknown assailants Thursday night hacked a Bangladeshi blogger to death in the capital city of Dhaka.A blogger is kiled again andthe venue makes the killing very very special as Abhijit was killed in the most crowded place in Dhaka,amidst the world famous Dhaka Book fair,the epicentre of Mother Tongue based Bangal Nationalism ,secular and democrat.It is RED ALARM for the entire geopolitics inflicted with crony capitalism aligned with eligious hegemonies all over.
A Dhaka Metropolitan Police official said blogger Abhijit Roy died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was rushed shortly after the miscreants attacked on him and his blogger wife Rafida Ahmed Banna at Dhaka University's TSC intersection Thursday night.
Miscreants managed to escape the scene, said the official who declined to be named.
Roy's blogging had reportedly evoked the ire of Islamist fundamentalists and he was regularly threatened by unknown assailants.
Another anti-Islamist blogger, Ahmed Rajib Haider, was hacked to death by unknown assailants in February 2013 in Dhaka.
Bangladeshi-American atheist blogger Avijit Roy was hacked to death by machete-wielding thugs in Dhaka on Thursday evening. His wife, blogger Rafida Ahmed, was also seriously wounded.
Roy had reportedly received threats from Islamists before his death, including an online statement two months ago that called for his murder.
Bangladesh has been struggling for years over the role of Islam in its politics, and atheist bloggers have been targeted in the past. In 2013, another blogger was killed in a similar attack, and the government arrested several writers and blocked websites in a crackdown on religious dissent.

তসলিমা নাসরিন বলেন, 'তিনি দুই দশক ধরে অভিজিৎকে চিনতেন-জানতেন। ইসলমাসহ সব ধর্মীয় মৌলবাদিত্বের সমালোচনাকারী ছিলেন অভিজিৎ যেটা এ হত্যার কারণ হতে পারে।' এমন আক্রমণ বাংলাদেশে 'নতুন না' বলেও ভারতীয় গণমাধ্যম দ্যহিন্দুকে তসলিমা বলেন।
বাংলাদেশে কথা বলার কোন স্বাধীনতা নাই। লেখদেরকে হত্যার এমন ঘটনা আগেও হয়েছে। তিনি বলেন, ২০১৩ সালে ধর্মনিরপেক্ষতা সমর্থনকারী আরেক ব্লগার আহমেদ রাজীব হায়দারকে চরমপন্থি গোষ্ঠীরা হত্যা করেছে। ২০০৪ সালে বই-মেলা চলাকালে লেখক হুমায়ুন আজাদ ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ক্যাম্পাসের কাছে হামলার শিকার হন। পরে দেশের বাইরে জার্মানির এপার্টমেন্টে তিনি রহস্যজনকভাবে মারা যান।
বাংলা সিনেমা পরিচালক গৌতম ঘোষ যিনি বাংলাদেশে সিনেমা পরিচালনা ও সহ-প্রযোজনা করেন এ ঘটনাকে তিনি 'ঘৃণ্য' বলে উল্লেখ করেন।
এ ঘটনা আঙ্গুল দিয়ে দেখিয়ে দেয় যে সব ধরনের সহিষ্ণুতা, হোক ধর্মীয় বা রাজনৈতিক ক্রমাগতভাবে বাড়ছিল। এমন আক্রমণ স্বাধীন-চিন্তার ধারক বাহকদের বাক রুদ্ধ করার প্রচেষ্টা। বাংলাদেশে এবং সারা পৃথিবী সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যম এ ঘটনার নিন্দা জানিয়েছে।
বামপন্থি অনলাইন একটিভিস্টদের প্লাটফর্ম 'গানামানচা' দাবি করেছে যে বাংলাদেশে 'ধর্মীয় মৌলবাদিরা' এসব হামলা ঘটনা ঘটাচ্ছে। দক্ষিণ-এশিয়ান উপমহাদেশের যুক্তিবাদি ব্লগার-লেখকরা ক্রমাগতভাবে আক্রমণের শিকার হচ্ছেন। যেমনটি দেখা গেছে ধর্মীয় উগ্রপন্থি কর্র্তক গোবিন্দ প্যান্যাস্যার (সিনিয়র কমিউনিস্ট পার্টি অব ইন্ডিয়া লিডার) এবং নরেন্দ্র ধভলকারকে (যুক্তিবাদি খ্যাত) গুপ্তহত্যার মধ্য দিয়ে।
Dhaka Tribune reports:Student organisations, cultural platforms, and bloggers have taken to the streets from Friday morning at TSC intersection of Dhaka University, demanding the immediate arrest of the killers of blogger-writer Avijit Roy.
Students gathered under the banner "Teachers-Students Agitation Platform," and chanted slogans, demanding the right to expression and justice for the attack on Avijit and his wife Bonna.
Many paid floral tributes at the spot where Avijit Roy was hacked to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna injured by unidentified miscreants.
The protesters positioned themselves near the Raju Anti-terrorism Sculpture, and held rallies, sang songs, chanted slogans, and had a candle-lit vigil, protesting the attack on the writer and his wife on their return from the book fair.
The speakers and protesters said the attack was a "massive threat" to the country's freedom of speech and democracy.
Chhatra Union, Chhatra Federation, and Chhatra Front were among the organisations that staged the daylong protests. In addition, the Gonojagoron Moncho, a platform calling for the punishment of war criminals, also carried out a sit-in at Shahbagh.
They formed a human chain in the morning and in the evening they brought out a torch-procession through different areas of the university.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University students brught out a mourning procession with black masks around 7:30pm, while a candlelight procession was also brought out from Oparajeo Bangla.
Protesting the killing, students declared tougher protest programmes. They vowed to stage a nonstop protest until the killers are arrested.
Baki Billah, an organiser of the protest at the Raju Sculpture at TSC, said they would keep on protesting the killing until the attackers are arrested.
"The protest will continue," Baki Said.
He said: "It is astonishing, and unacceptable that the killers are still at large."

উগ্রবাদী জঙ্গিরাই অভিজিতের খুনি!

উগ্র মৌলবাদী জঙ্গি গোষ্ঠী লেখক ও ব্লগার প্রকৌশলী অভিজিত্ রায়কে হত্যা করেছে বলে প্রাথমিক তদন্তে পুলিশ নিশ্চিত হয়েছে। এ হত্যার দায় স্বীকার করে 'আনসার বাংলা-৭' নামের একটি সংগঠন টুইটারে স্ট্যাটাস দিয়েছে। স্ট্যাটাসে দেয়া তথ্যে বলা হয়েছে, 'ভিআইপি টার্গেট ইজ ডাউন। ইয়েস ব্রাদার, উই ক্যান।'
ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের টিএসসি এলাকায় বিপুলসংখ্যক পুলিশী নিরাপত্তার মধ্যে এ হত্যার ঘটনায় খোদ পুলিশ স্তম্ভিত হয়ে পড়েছে। রাজনীতিবিদ, সুশীল সমাজ, লেখক ও শিক্ষার্থীরা এ ঘটনাকে অবহেলা না করে সর্বোচ্চ গুরুত্ব দিয়ে তদন্ত করার দাবি তুলেছে।
বৃহস্পতিবার রাত সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যান সংলগ্ন ফুটপাতে অভিজিত্ ও তার স্ত্রী বন্যার ওপর হামলা চালানোর সময় টিএসসি'র সামনের রাস্তায় শাহবাগ থানা পুলিশের একটি টহল গাড়ি অবস্থান করছিল। বাংলা একাডেমীর একুশে বই মেলার চত্বরের প্রবেশস্থলেও পুলিশ ও র্যাব সদস্যরা নিরাপত্তার দায়িত্ব পালন করছিলেন। ফুটপাত দিয়ে স্বামী-স্ত্রী হেঁটে যাওয়ার সময় পিছন থেকে দুইজন চাপাতিধারী ব্যক্তি তাদের উপর হামলা চালায়। হামলাকারীরা চলে যাওয়ার সময় একজনের পিছু নেয় একজন পথচারী। ঐ পথচারী সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানের ছবির হাট পর্যন্ত তাকে অনুসরণ করে। এক পর্যায়ে ঐ পথচারী হামলাকারীকে জাপটে ধরে। পরে হামলাকারী তাকে ভয়ভীতি দেখিয়ে পালিয়ে যেতে সক্ষম হয়।
ময়না তদন্ত শেষে ঢাকা মেডিক্যাল কলেজ মর্গে অভিজিতের লাশ রাখা হয়েছে। অভিজিতের সিদ্ধান্ত অনুযায়ী লাশ ঢাকা মেডিক্যাল কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীদের পড়াশোনার জন্য দান করা হবে। মাথার পিছনে তিনটি গুরুতর আঘাত ও অতিরিক্ত রক্তক্ষণেই অভিজিতের মৃত্যু হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন লাশের ময়না তদন্তকারী চিকিত্সক। তিনি মন্তব্য করেছেন, খুনি অত্যন্ত দক্ষ ও প্রশিক্ষিত।
অভিজিত্ রায়ের ছোট ভাই অরিজিত্ রায়ের স্ত্রী কেয়া বর্মণ জানিয়েছেন, আগামীকাল রবিবার অভিজিত্ রায়ের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করা হবে। কাল সকাল ১০টা থেকে দুপুর ১২টা পর্যন্ত দুই ঘণ্টা তার মরদেহ ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অপরাজেয় বাংলার পাদদেশে রাখা হবে। শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদনের পর মরদেহ ঢাকা মেডিক্যাল কলেজে গবেষণার জন্য দান করা হবে।
শাহবাগ থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) সিরাজুল ইসলাম বলেন, ঘটনাস্থল থেকে রক্তমাখা দুটি চাপাতি ও কাঁধে ঝোলানো একটি ব্যাগ উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। দুটি চাপাতির হাতল কাগজে মোড়ানো ছিল। গতকাল শুক্রবার সকালে লেখক অভিজিত্ রায় হত্যার ঘটনায় জঙ্গিদের দায়ী করে মামলা দায়ের করেছেন তার বাবা বিশিষ্ট শিক্ষাবিদ ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের সাবেক অধ্যাপক অজয় রায়। মামলায় অজয় রায় জঙ্গি গোষ্ঠীকে দায়ী করেছেন। অজয় রায় সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, 'আমার ছেলেকে হত্যার জন্য উগ্র জঙ্গিবাদীরাই দায়ী'। তিনি বলেন, শুধু অভিজিত্ই নয়, তারা অনেককেই হত্যা করছে, যার পেছনে জামায়াতে ইসলামসহ অনেক জঙ্গিই আছে, সরকারের উচিত এসব অপতত্পরতা বন্ধে পদক্ষেপ নেয়া।
অজয় রায় আরো বলেন, 'পুলিশ ইচ্ছে করলে ২৪ ঘন্টায় খুনিদের গ্রেফতার করতে পারে। করবে কিনা সেটা তাদের ব্যাপার। আমি আমার ছেলের হত্যাকারীদের গ্রেফতার ও বিচারের দাবিতে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর হস্তক্ষেপ চাই।'
গতকাল দুপুরে টিএসসি'র সামনে সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানের ফুটপাতে ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করেন ঢাকা মহানগর গোয়েন্দা পুলিশের (ডিবি) ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারা। ডিবির উপ-কমিশনার (দক্ষিণ) কৃষ্ণপদ রায় বলেন, আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে তদন্তের দায়িত্ব ডিবির কাছে না এলেও তদন্তের কাজ শুরু হয়েছে। বিষয়টি ডিবি খতিয়ে দেখছে। এখন পর্যন্ত কেউ আটক হয়নি। প্রতিটি ঘটনা আলাদা। প্রতিটি ঘটনার প্যাটার্ন আলাদা। তদন্তের কার্যক্রম আলাদাভাবে গণ্য। লোকজন অনেক সময় আলাদা হয়। ভিকটিমও আলাদা। তবে ডিবি সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করছে এর পেছনে যারা জড়িত, তাদের খুঁজে বের করতে।
ঘটনার পর গোয়েন্দা পুলিশ (ডিবি) ও পুলিশের অপরাধ তদন্ত বিভাগের (সিআইডি) অপরাধ শনাক্তকরণ দল ঘটনাস্থলের আলামত সংগ্রহ করে।
গতকাল বেলা সাড়ে ১১টায় শাহবাগ থানার উপ-পরিদর্শক (এসআই) সুব্রত গোলদার লাশের সুরতহাল প্রতিবেদন তৈরি করেন। এরপর ঢাকা মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালের ফরেনসিক মেডিসিন বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক ডা. সোহেল মাহমুদ বেলা পৌনে ১টা থেকে সোয়া ১টা পর্যন্ত ময়না তদন্ত করেন। সুরতহাল রিপোর্টে বলা হয়েছে, অভিজিত্ রায়ের মাথায় (ঘাড়ের উপরে) তিনটি গুরুতর জখম, অন্যপাশে আরও দুটি এবং পিঠে একটি জখমের চিহ্ন রয়েছে।
চিকিত্সক সোহেল মাহমুদ জানিয়েছেন, অভিজিত্ রায়ের মাথার পিছন দিকে ডান পাশে তিনটি গভীর আঘাতের চিহ্ন ছিল, যেগুলো করা হয়েছে চাপাতির মতো কোনো ধারাল অস্ত্র দিয়ে। একটি আঘাত থেকে আরেকটি আঘাতের দূরত্ব আধা ইঞ্চি, সবই সমান্তরাল। ঐ আঘাত এতোই মারাত্মক ছিল যে চামড়া ও হাড় কেটে একবারে মগজে পৌঁছেছে। এছাড়া পিঠে ও বাঁ চোখের ভ্রূ'র কাছে জখমের চিহ্ন পাওয়া গেছে। মূলত মাথার পেছনে তিনটি আঘাতের প্রচণ্ডতা ও অতিরিক্ত রক্তক্ষরণেই অভিজিতের মৃত্যু হয়েছে বলে এই চিকিত্সকের ধারণা।
তিনি বলেন, এটি খুব দক্ষ হাতের কাজ। কোথায় মারলে মানুষ মারা যায়, সেটা হামলাকারীরা জানে। তারা অত্যন্ত দক্ষ ও হিংস্র ছিল। তিনটি আঘাত করেছে আধা ইঞ্চি ব্যবধানে, একটি আরেকটির ওপর পড়েনি। 'পরিকল্পনা, দক্ষতা আর হিংস্রতা' ছাড়া এভাবে মানুষ হত্যা সম্ভব নয় বলেও মন্তব্য করেন সোহেল মাহমুদ।
পুলিশের রমনা জোনের সহকারী কমিশনার শিবলী নোমান বলেন, অভিজিত্ হত্যাকাণ্ডটিকে বলা যায় টার্গেট ওরিয়েন্টেড কিলিং, প্রতিক্রিয়াশীল গোষ্ঠীর কাজ এটি। অনেক সময় জনসমাগম এলাকায় টার্গেট ওরিয়েন্টেড কিলিং-এ অংশ নেয়াদের হাতে নাতে ধরা কঠিন হয়ে যায়। পুলিশ এরই মধ্যে তদন্ত শুরু করেছে। পুলিশের পাশাপাশি গোয়েন্দা পুলিশ, র্যাব ও সিআইডি তাদের কার্যক্রম শুরু করেছে। এই ধরনের ব্যক্তিকে কারা হত্যা করতে পারে, তার হত্যাকাণ্ডে কারা বেশি লাভবান হতে পারে সে বিষয়টি মাথা রেখেই তদন্ত শুরু হয়েছে।
র্যাবের গোয়েন্দা শাখার পরিচালক লে. কর্নেল আবুল কালাম আজাদ জানান, নিখুঁত পরিকল্পনার মাধ্যমে এই হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটানো হয়েছে। ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, ঘাতকরা বই মেলা থেকেই তাদের টার্গেট করে আসছিল। বই মেলার বাইরে তারা চলে আসার পর তাকে হিট করা হয়েছে।
খুনিরা প্রশিক্ষিত না হলে শত শত লোকের সামনে দিয়ে বেরিয়ে যাওয়া সম্ভব ছিল না। এছাড়া মূল কিলিংয়ে ২ জন অংশ নিলেও খুনের সঙ্গে পরোক্ষাভাবে আরো অন্তত ১০/১৫ জন ছিল। দুই ঘাতককে রক্ষা করতে আশপাশেই অবস্থান ছিল তাদের। তারা তাদের পালিয়ে যেতে সহায়তা করেছে। খুনের সঙ্গে জঙ্গি গোষ্ঠীর সম্পৃক্ততা থাকার সম্ভাবনাই বেশি। এই হত্যার সঙ্গে মিরপুরে ব্লগার রাজীব খুনের যথেষ্ট মিল রয়েছে।
মুক্ত চিন্তার ব্যক্তিদের হত্যার ধারাবাহিক মিশনেরই একটি অংশ কি না তাও যাচাই-বাছাই করা হচ্ছে। কেননা অন্য আরো ৬টি হত্যাকাণ্ডের ঘটনাও প্রায় একই ধরনের।
একজন গোয়েন্দা কর্মকর্তা জানান, আনোয়ার-আল-আওলাকীর পরিচালনায় ইয়েমেনভিত্তিক আল-কায়দা জঙ্গি সংগঠনের নেটওয়ার্কের অনুসারী 'আনসার বাংলা'। দুই বছর আগে বরগুনা থেকে গ্রেফতারকৃত আনসারুল্লাহ বাংলা টিমের প্রধান মুফতি জসীম উদ্দিন রাহমানির সঙ্গে 'আনসার বাংলা' সংগঠনের সদস্যদের যোগাযোগ ছিল। 'আনসার বাংলা' সংগঠনের সদস্যদের মধ্যে অনেকের সঙ্গে নিষিদ্ধ জঙ্গি সংগঠন হিযবুত তাহরীরের যোগাযোগ রয়েছে।
স্কয়ার হাসপাতালের আইসিইউতে বন্যা : স্বামী অভিজিত্ রায়ের সঙ্গে সন্ত্রাসী হামলার শিকার ডা. রাফিদা আহমেদ বন্যাকে ঢাকা মেডিক্যাল থেকে গতকাল সকালে স্কয়ার হাসপাতালে নেয়া হয়েছে। শুদ্ধস্বর প্রকাশনীর স্বত্বাধিকারী আহমেদুর রশিদ টিটু জানিয়েছেন, বন্যাকে নিবিড় পরিচর্যা কেন্দ্রে (আইসিইউ) রাখা হয়েছে।

Unidentified assailants have hacked to death writer Avijit Roy and seriously injured his blogger wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya.

Police said the couple came under assault near TSC intersection at Dhaka University around 9:30pm on Thursday.
Witnesses said they were on a rickshaw returning from the Amar Ekushey Book Fair when two attackers stopped it, dragged them onto the footpath and started hacking them.
They were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared Avijit dead during an emergency surgery, its police outpost Inspector Mozzamel Haque told bdnews24.com.
DMCH casualty department's Residential Surgeon Riaz Morshed also confirmed bdnews24.com about Avijit Roy's death.
Islamist zealots have been threatening Avijit, a bioengineer and a naturalised US citizen, for his active campaign against Islamist radicals.
Avijit has been a regular bdnews24.com columnist and the founder of popular blog Mukto-mona.
He is the son of well-known physicist Ajay Roy who has taught at Dhaka University for a long time.
Avijit had suffered a deep gash on his head during the assault and Bonya lost a finger and suffered cut wounds.
She was still under treatment at DMCH.
Two machetes, Bonya's severed finger and a bag that possibly belonged to the assailants were recovered from the scene, Shahbagh police Sub-Inspector Sohel Rana said.
He told bdnews24.com: "We found some old folded newspapers inside the bag along with some other things. It seems the machetes were wrapped with the newspapers."
CID officials collected the evidence from the crime scene, he added.
One of the witnesses, a teashop owner in that area, told bdnews24.com that both assailants after carrying out the attack had dumped their weapons at the scene.
Then one of them ran towards TSC and the other Suhrawardy Udyan, according to the witness.
Avijit's blogger friends say he was possibly trapped – some bloggers had invited him to a book fair event.
Police are investigating the lead to track down the culprits.
Avijit Roy is well known for his books 'Biswaser Virus' (Virus of Faith) and 'Sunyo theke Mahabiswa' (From Vacuum to the Great World).
Two of his recent titles had been launched at the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair.
His writing and blogging had evoked the ire of fanatics and he had been regularly threatened.
Thursday's attack bore a striking similarity to the one on legendary writer Humayun Azad in February 2004.
Azad was also returning to home from the Ekushey Book Fair when he was hacked with machetes by radical militants. He later died in Germany while undergoing treatment.
Militants also hacked blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider to death in a similar attack near his home at Dhaka's Mirpur in February 2013.
That was barely 10 days after the secular platform Ganajagaran Mancha started its Shahbagh-based agitation.
Islamist radicals had attacked other secular bloggers like Ashraful Alam and Asif Mohiuddin after the Shahbagh agitation polarised opinions in Bangladesh.
They were demanding capital punishment for war criminals and a ban on communal parties like the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Fanatic blogger Farabi Shafiur Rahman had issued death threats demanding that Rokomari.com, an online shopping portal, stop selling books of Avijit Roy.
Police had arrested Farabi in connection with Rajib Haider's murder, but he managed to secure bail later.

স্টাফ রিপোর্টার ॥ মৌলবাদবিরোধী লেখক অভিজিৎ রায় হত্যাকান্ডের নিন্দা জানিয়ে দ্রুত অপরাধীদের গ্রেফতার করতে সরকারের কাছে দাবি জানিয়েছে ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়ন। শুক্রবার এক বিবৃতিতে এ দাবি জানানো হয়। এদিকে অভিজিৎ হত্যাকাণ্ডকে নৃশংস আখ্যায়িত করে তার মৃত্যুতে শোক জানিয়েছেন ঢাকায় ব্রিটিশ হাইকমিশনার রবার্ট গিবসন। অভিজিৎ হত্যার সময় এক প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী বলেছেন, খুনীরা সর্বোচ্চ দুই মিনিটের মধ্যে ঘটনা ঘটিয়ে দ্রুত সটকে পড়ে। আহতদের সহায়তায় প্রথমে কেউ এগিয়ে আসেনি। সবাই এগিয়ে আসলে খুনীরা পালিয়ে যেতে পারত না।
রাতে ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়নের পক্ষ থেকে পাঠানো বার্তায় এই বর্বরোচিত হত্যাকান্ডের জন্য শোক প্রকাশ করা হয়। লেখক-ব্লগার অভিজিৎ রায়ের ওপর হামলার ঘটনায় পুলিশ সেলিম নামে এক প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীর বক্তব্য নিয়েছে। যিনি ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলাকায় পানি বিক্রি করেন। সেলিমের বরাত দিয়ে পুলিশ জানায়, বৃহস্পতিবার রাত সাড়ে ৯টার সময় হঠাৎ তিনি টিএসসি এলাকায় চিৎকার শুনতে পান। এগিয়ে গিয়ে দেখেন, রক্তাক্ত অবস্থায় এক ব্যক্তি পড়ে আছেন। আরেক নারী রক্তাক্ত শরীর নিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে অন্যের সাহায্য চাইছেন। কোট পরা আনুমানিক ৩৫ বছর বয়সী একজন ও সাদা শার্ট পরা আরেকজন দ্রুত দৌড়ে দু'দিকে পালাচ্ছে। আশপাশে অনেক লোক ও কাছেই পুলিশ সদস্যরা থাকলেও কেউ ভুক্তভোগীদের সাহায্যে এগিয়ে আসেনি। হামলাকারীরা এক থেকে দুই মিনিট সময় নিয়েছে। দ্রুতগতিতে তারা পালিয়ে যায়।
এ সময় কাছেই দাঁড়ানো সেলিম চিৎকার করে উঠলে হামলাকারীরা তাড়া করে এবং প্রাণভয়ে সেলিম সেখান থেকে দৌড়ে সরে যায় বলেও জানিয়েছে পুলিশ। ঘটনাস্থল থেকে মাত্র ১৫ গজ দূরে চায়ের দোকান রয়েছে মালেকের। তিনি বলেন, 'হঠাৎ চেঁচামেচি শুনে ডানে তাকাই। দেখি দৌড়াদৌড়ি করছে লোকজন। রক্তাক্ত অবস্থায় দু'জন পড়ে থাকলেও প্রথমে কেউ এগিয়ে যায়নি। পুলিশ ছাড়া মানুষও আশপাশ এলাকায় গমগম করছিল। সবার সামনে এমন ঘটনায় কেউ গেল না, এটা বিশ্বাস হতে চায় না। এক নারী দৃশ্যটি দেখে অচেতন হয়ে পড়েন।
অভিজিৎ রায় ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের সাবেক শিক্ষক ও সাম্প্রদায়িকতা ও জঙ্গীবাদবিরোধী মঞ্চের সমন্বয়ক অধ্যাপক অজয় রায়ের বড় ছেলে। অভিজিতকে দেশে আসতে বারণ করেছিলেন বাবা। কিন্তু মূলত তিনি মায়ের টানে আসেন। এরপর দুটো বই মেলার বেরুবে সব মিলিয়ে তার দেশে আসা। কিন্তু এটাই যে তাঁর শেষ আসা হবে কে জানত?

Roy was attacked by machete-wielding thugs
In an attack that some are comparing to the Charlie Hebdo killings, Avijit Roy, a prominent Bangladeshi-American atheist blogger, was hacked to death on Thursday evening in Dhaka by two machete-wielding thugs. His wife Rafida Ahmed, who was with him at the time, was also seriously wounded in the attack.
According to AFP, Roy and Ahmed were returning home from a book fair when the attackers forced the bicycle rickshaw they were riding in to stop. They dragged Roy and Ahmed from the vehicle and then attacked them with machetes.
Roy is reported to have died on the way to the hospital.
Roy's murder has sparked outrage in Bangladesh not just over the crime, but over what many see as a larger problem of Islamist violence. His death prompted a large demonstration in Dhaka. Hundreds of protesters gathered to demand justice for Roy and denounce his killers.
The protesters carried signs and chanted "we want justice." The head of the Bangladeshi bloggers' association, Imran Sarker, said that Roy's murder had "once again proved that there is a culture of impunity in the country" and that the government must arrest the killers within 24 hours or "face non-stop protests."
Roy's father has reportedly blamed Jamaat-e-Islami, a popular Islamist party, for "backing" the militants who murdered his son. In response, the party's acting secretary general issued an angry press release denying any involvement in Roy's murder, and calling for the authorities to conduct a "credible and fair" investigation to find the "real murderers."
Islamists had reportedly threatened Roy before over his outspoken atheism
Roy described himself on his Facebook page as an "engineer by profession and a writer by passion." He had a "profound interest," he said, in "freethinking, skepticism, philosophy, scientific thoughts and human rights of people." He had won acclaim within the community of Bangladeshi atheists and bloggers for his writing.
Hardline Islamist groups have demanded laws prohibiting criticism of Islam and have called for the execution of atheist bloggers like Roy. Roy's father told the AFP that Roy had received threats on email and social media from Islamists who objected to his work.
Roy's work was well known in Bangladesh. He ran his own website, Mukto Mona, until several years ago, and was the author of ten books. According toThe Independent, his most recent books, Biswasher Virus ("Virus of Faith") and Obisshahser Dorshon ("The Philosophy of Disbelief"), were controversial but critically well-received. Although Roy had suspended his work on Mukto Mona several years ago, today the site's content has been replaced with a single message in Bengali: "We mourn, but we are not defeated."
In December 2014, Bangladesh News 24 reports, a man named Shafiur Rahman Farabi had posted a message on a web forum lamenting that it would not be possible to kill Roy while he was in the United States, but that he would be murdered when he returned to Bangladesh. "Abhijit Roy lives in America and so, it is not possible to kill him right now. He will be murdered when he comes back."
The Guardian reports that Farabi was arrested for making those threats, but that it was not clear whether he was free at the time of Roy's murder.
Protests over Roy's death show the depth of controversy over atheism and religion in Bangladesh

To understand how Roy's life and murder fit into the larger issue of religion in public life in Bangladesh, it helps to look at another atheist blogger who was murdered in a machete attack, in 2013: Ahmed Rajib Haider.
Four students who were members of a little-known Islamist extremist organization confessed to his killing.
Haider had been a prominent voice in the 2013 Shahbag protests, which called for a death sentence for Islamist politician Abdul Quader Mollah over his role in crimes against humanity during Bangladesh's 1971 war of independence. The protests also demanded that Mollah's party, the same Jamaat-e-Islami that Roy's father blamed for his son's death, be barred from Bangladeshi politics.
Haider's death triggered protests by thousands of secular activists. However, Islamist groups also increased their campaigns against other atheist bloggers, calling for them to be executed for blasphemy.
The Islamist campaign was partially successful: the government arrestedseveral prominent atheist bloggers and blocked a number of atheist websites. Human Rights Watch issued a statement at the time of the arrests, calling the detained bloggers "political prisoners" who had been jailed for peacefully expressing their views.
This is the political climate that Roy, and others like him, have operated in for years. It is one in which secular activists have never stopped pushing for the right to express their ideas publicly; but also one in which powerful Islamist groups believe that those secular voices should be silenced — if necessary, by death.

একুশের বইমেলার কারণে টিএসসি মোড়ে ছিল বিপুল মানুষের সমাগম। ছিল চারপাশ ঘিরে তিন স্তরে পুলিশের নিরাপত্তাবেষ্টনী। এ রকম কঠোর নিরাপত্তাবলয়ের মধ্যে লেখক ও ব্লগার অভিজিৎ রায় কী করে খুন হলেন এবং খুনিরা কী করে নির্বিঘ্নে পালিয়ে গেল, তা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন উঠেছে।প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী অনেকে বলছেন, ঘটনাস্থল ও এর আশপাশে অস্ত্র হাতে পুলিশ সদস্যরা থাকলেও তাঁরা ছিলেন নীরব দর্শকের ভূমিকায়। হামলাকারীদের ধাওয়াও করেননি তাঁরা।
অভিজিতের বাবা ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের অবসরপ্রাপ্ত অধ্যাপক অজয় কুমার রায় ক্ষোভের সঙ্গে বলেন, 'পুলিশ হয়তো আমার ছেলের খুন ঠেকাতে পারত না। কিন্তু পুতুলের মতো দাঁড়িয়ে না থেকে তারা তো খুনিদের ধরতে পারত।

অভিজিৎ রায় আমার ফেইসবুক বন্ধু ছিলেন। গত বছর কোন এক সময়ে ধারাবাহিকভাবে মুলত বিদেশে অবস্থানরত তরুন নাস্তিক্যবাদীদের সাথে আমার কিছু একাডেমিক তর্কের প্রেক্ষিতে পর্যায়ক্রমে সকলের সাথেই ফেইসবুকের এই সম্পর্ক ছিন্ন করি, অভিজিৎ রায়ের সাথেও ফেইসবুকের সম্পর্কের ইতি ঘটে।
আমি অভিজিৎকে কখনো চোখের দেখা দেখিনি, তাঁর লেখার মাধ্যমেই তাঁকে যতটুকু চিনেছি। তরুন নাস্তিক্যবাদীদের সাথে আমার চিন্তার ভিন্নতা আছে, তার মুল কারণ আমি নাস্তিক নই, আমি অজ্ঞেয়বাদী; পাশাপাশি আমি তাঁদের চর্চার এবং চিন্তার প্রকাশের পথটাকে সঠিক মনে করিনা। এ সত্ত্বেও অভিজিতের বিপদে সাহায্য করার ইচ্ছায় ঢাকা মেডিক্যালে ছুটে যেতে আমি নৈতিক তাগিদ অনুভব করেছি।
কিন্তু গতকাল ঢাকা মেডিক্যাল কলেজ থেকে ফিরে এসে ভারাক্রান্ত হৃদয়ে অভিজিতের মৃত্যুতে দেয়া স্ট্যেইটাসের নিচে কারো কারো যেই উল্লাস দেখেছি সেটায় আমি বিহ্বল এবং মানসিকভাবে বিধ্বস্ত হয়েছি। কী নিদারুণ মৃত্যুক্ষুধা কারো কারো মধ্যে।
বাংলাদেশে কেউ হেফাজত মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ বিএনপি মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ জামাত মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ বিডিআরের অফিসার মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ আওয়ামী লীগ মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ নাস্তিক মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ হিন্দু মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ মুসলিম মরলে খুশী হয়, কেউ বাম মরলে খুশী হয়। কারণ আমরা মানুষকে মানুষ হিসেবে গণ্য করিনা। তাই সবার মৃত্যুতে বেদনাহত হওয়ার ক্ষমতা আমরা অনেকেই হারিয়ে ফেলেছি। আমরা মানুষকে ভালোবাসিনা, আমরা প্রাণের পক্ষে নই, প্রাণের সুরক্ষায় আমরা উৎসব করিনা; আমরা মৃত্যুর সেলিব্রেশন করি। আমরা আসলে জম্বি। ভেতরের মানুষটা মরে গেছে, অর্থহীন শরীর নিয়ে দিন কাটাই। মানুষ আমাদের কাছে জরুরী নয়, জরুরী `আদর্শ`। আমরা আমাদের তথাকথিত আদর্শের জন্য মানবতাকে ট্রেইড অফ করেছি। যেই আদর্শ মানুষকে ভালবাসতে শেখায় না, সেই আদর্শের মানুষকে দেবার কিছু নেই।
প্রত্যেকটা মানুষ এক অবিচ্ছেদ্য মানবিক সত্তাকে শেয়ার করে, সেটার মর্যাদা হানী হলে সব মানুষের মর্যাদা হানী হয়। অভিজিতের মৃত্যুর প্রতিবাদ করতে হলে নাস্তিক হওয়ার দরকার নেই, মানুষ হলেই যথেষ্ট।
প্রিয় দেশবাসী ভালো করে তাকিয়ে দেখুন, নিহত হেফাজতি আর নিহত অভিজিতের রক্তের কোন তফাৎ নেই, ভালো করে দেখুন, দুজনেই ভিক্টিম, দুজনেই আপনার ভাই।

ব্লগার অভিজিৎ হত্যাকান্ডের পর জনমনে নানা প্রশ্ন দেখা দিয়েছে। বলা হচ্ছে, বইমেলা , অত্যাধুনিক প্রযুক্তি দিয়ে এর নিরাপত্তা ঘেরা । চারিদিকে র্যাব , পুলিশ ও বিজিবির আনাগোনা । সাথে আছে সিভিল পোষাকে গোয়েন্দা কর্মকর্তা । শাহাবাগ থেকে প্রথম চেকিং শুরু , দ্বিতীয় চেকিং হয় টি এস সির মোরে , তৃতীয় চেকিং বইমেলার গেইটে । অন্যদিকে জাতীয় ঈদগাহের সামনে প্রথম চেকিং , দ্বিতীয়টা দোয়েল চত্তরের মোরে তৃতীয় চেকিং বইমেলার গেইটে । এই রাস্তা গুলাতে প্রতি ২ হাত অন্তর অন্তর প্রায় ১০-১২ জন করে পুলিশ , র্যাব ও বিজিবির সদস্য মোতায়েন করা । সাধারনত হাতে বেগ থাকলেই সেই ব্যাগ চেকিং হয় মিনিমাম দুই জায়গায় । আর সাথে অস্ত্র নেওয়া তো দুরের কথা ।
এরকম নিরাপত্তা সম্ভবত প্রধানমন্ত্রী ও রাষ্ট্রপতির বাসভবন এর নিরাপত্তার চেয়েও বেশী । এরকম একটা নিরাপত্তাবহুল জায়গায় দুজন নর নারীকে ৫ মিনিট সময় ধরে কুপিয়ে একজন হত্যা ও আরেকজন কে জখম করে চলে গেলো কিন্তু পুলিশ টের ই পেলনা ? টি এস সি থেকে খুন করে খুনি নিশ্চয়ই তিন জায়গা ছাড়া অন্য কোন জায়গা দিয়ে পালাতে পারবেনা । একদিকে কলাভবনের দিকের রাস্তা তাও পুলিশ বেষ্টনী , অন্যদিকে শাহাবাগের রাস্তা তাও পুলিশের করা নিরাপত্তা , অন্যদিকে দোয়েল চত্তরের দিকের রাস্তা । আর রমনা তে ঢুকার প্রশ্নই আসেনা । তবে এতো নিরাপত্তার মাঝে দিয়ে খুনি পালালো কিভাবে ?
অনেকেই বলছেন, তবে কি ধরে নিতে হবে যারা নিরাপত্তার কাজে জড়িত এবং যাদের আদেশে নিরাপত্তা কর্মীরা নিরাপত্তার কাজে নিয়োজিত তারাই এ হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটিয়েছে ? অথবা তাদের মধ্যেই লুকিয়ে থাকা সরকারের গুপ্তচরেরা এই কাজ ঘটিয়েছে নিরাপত্তা কর্মীদের নিরাপত্তার মাধ্যমে ?
অন্যযুক্তিও দেয়া হচ্ছে। বর্তমান কোন ইস্যুকে ধামাচাপা দিতে নতুন কোন ইস্যু সরকারের দরকার । এদিকে ভারতের পররাষ্ট্র সচিব জয়শঙ্কর ঢাকায় আসছেন। এই সময়ে হয়তো একটা সংখ্যালঘুর লাশ ফেলা খুব জরুরী ছিল, বাংলাদেশকে জঙ্গি হিসেবে তুলে ধরতে ।এক ঢিলে কয়েক পাখি মারার মতো ঘটনা ।
অপরদিকে উগ্রবাদীদের জড়িত থাকার আশংখাও উড়িয়ে দেয়া যাচ্ছে না। অভিজিতের উগ্র ধর্ম বিদ্বেষী লেখায় অনেকেই তার উপর ক্ষিপ্ত থাকতে পারে । পারিবারিক সূত্র বলছে, এর জন্য তিনি নাকি এরেই মধ্যেই মাঝে মাঝে হুমকিও পেতেন।

লেখক ও ব্লগার অভিজিৎ রায়কে কুপিয়ে হত্যা করেছে দুর্বৃত্তরা। গতকাল বৃহস্পতিবার রাতে অমর একুশে গ্রন্থমেলা থেকে ফেরার পথে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলাকায় তিনি খুন হন। বইমেলাকে ঘিরে আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীর উপস্থিতির মধ্যেই এ ঘটনা ঘটল। অভিজিতের ওপর দুর্বৃত্তদের হামলার সময় তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন স্ত্রী রাফিদা আহমেদ। এ সময় তিনিও গুরুতর আহত হন।
