Srinagar, Apr 22: The chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that conspiracies were being hatched by some insiders to create distrust among the people towards the 'freedom' movement.

"We are at the crossroads today. On one hand we are against a country which has second largest military strength in the world. But they have failed to suppress our movement due to the will and the resolve of people. But on the other hand some people are trying to create distrust among the people towards the freedom struggle. It is unfortunate that these elements are within our ranks and claim to be pro-movement," Mirwaiz said while addressing a sit-in protest against the killing of Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadees chief Moulana Showkat Ahmed Shah outside Jamia Masjid here.

Mirwaiz said that mindset behind the targeting of leaders needed to be exposed "as people become indifferent towards the struggle by these shameful incidents." "This mindset spreads epidemic everywhere. If we talk about Afghanistan, this mindset wreaked havoc there. Some people thought that only they are right, that only their way is right," he said, adding that in the past 20 years "we were asked to remain silent in the interests of the movement."

Mirwaiz said the killers need to be exposed and "it needs to be seen which mindset or the party wants to keep its domination by these acts."

"Our patience is running out and we need to see the people, group, party or the country behind this conspiracy," he said. About the Government probe in the killing of Shah, Mirwaiz said that they "neither reject nor accept it."

"Government should present all the evidence before us so we investigate the matter. We are grateful to United Jehad Council for assuring cooperation," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik said that some mindsets were instigating civil war in Kashmir.
"The collective response of people from all walks has defeated the purpose of the killer. Not only this, we will also expose him. We should be cautious and foil the designs of the elements who are trying to push this nation towards civil war," Malik said.

"The youth have rendered countless sacrifices for the freedom movement from 1990 and if the movement would be successful, then credit goes to them," he said.

Malik said that assassination of the Moulana Showkat was an attack on every religious party, Masjid and shrine of the Valley.

"We will tell the nation truth this time, even if I lose my life. If we will not lie, then another Moulana Showkat wouldn't die," emotionally charged Malik said.

"What was the fault of Showkat Sahab? Was his crime that he provided stage to pro-freedom leaders in Lal Chowk? Was his sin that he wanted to provide modern education to the students of Kashmir so that they don't feel inferiority complex?" Malik questioned.

Representative of Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led Hurriyat (G), Altaf Ahmed Shah said that that it would be sin if anybody tries to cover the guilty. "But the bigger sin would be if any innocent is implicated in the case," he said.

Amir Jamaat-i-Islami Kashmir, Sheikh Muhammad Hassan said that killers need to be exposed to prevent the bloodshed of the innocent in the future.
Terming his death as personal tragedy, he said that Moulana was the torchbearer of unity among different sects.

"The All Parties Investigating Committee would continue its efforts for exposing the killers," he said.
"We will carry out investigation in the right way .We will be successful in our mission," said Jamait-Ahlihadees president Ghulam Rasool Malik, who heads the 10-member committee constituted to probe Shah's killing.

President of Anjuman-Shraien-Shiyan, Aga Syed Hassan said that Shah had a desire of uniting the nation.
"Due to his sacrifice, all the political and religious leaders of the nation have gathered on a single platform," he said.

"The need of the hour is to expose those hands which snatched political and religious leaders from us," he said.
Among others, National Front chairman Nayeem Ahmed Khan and close aide of Mirwaiz, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam also participated in the dharna.
