Ashok Agarwal 9:05am Jun 24 Student moves court against St Stephen's College Indo-Asian News Service Thursday, 23 June 2011 23:37 New Delhi: A student, who secured 89 percent marks in Class 12 but was not allowed to appear in an admission interview in St. Stephen's College under the Christian quota, approached the Delhi High Court on Thursday. Nikhil Neil Das applied for admission to BA Economics (Hons) course for the 2011-12 session. The court is likely to take up the petition on Friday. He said in the petition that the college illegally and unconstitutionally set a criteria of admission to benefit candidates having membership in the Church of North India (CNI). He himself is not a member of the CNI. The college came out with two cut-offs for the course - one for applicants who were members of the CNI and those who were not members of the CNI. "At the time of submitting the application, there was no mention of a different cut-off of marks within the Christian community," said the petition. Das filed the petition through lawyer Ashok Agarwal who said that 40 percent seats in the course were reserved for students belonging to the Christian community and Das applied under that quota.
