Anna denies RSS 'support' to Ramlila stir

TNN | Oct 8, 2011, 12.29AM IST
NEW DELHI: Activist Anna Hazare dismissed RSS' controversial claim that the saffron outfit had supported the Ramlila agitation for the Jan Lokpal bill.

Debunking the RSS claim, Anna told reporters from his native Ralegaon Siddhi in Maharashtra, "Nobody approached me. Not a single RSS worker met me or approached me. How are they saying this? I don't know."

He was reacting to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's remarks at the RSS' annual Dussehra rally in Nagpur on Thursday that its volunteers "are already active in all movements against corruption without craving for their own position and credit".

Anna on Friday launched his campaign against Congress in the Hissar Lok Saba by-poll. He urged people not to vote for the party because it has failed to bring the Jan Lokpal bill.

Carrying out his threat issued three days ago, Anna made an appeal to the electorate through a CD that was posted online, saying Congress should be defeated. "We have appealed to the people. Congress should be defeated as it has failed to bring the Jan Lokpal bill," he said in the 10-minute CD called ``The Government of the Corrupt".

Going by the schedule provided by India against Corruption (IAC), which is spearheading the movement, Anna won't go to Hissar to campaign against Congress.

However, IAC members Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai and Naveen Jaihind will leave for Hissar on Saturday and will be there till October 10, when the campaign for the election ends. Another member Kiran Bedi will visit Hissar on October 10.

In the video appeal, Kejriwal said the vote this time would change the country's destiny. "If you do not vote for Congress today, it will get a message that in the coming elections, it won't get votes if it doesn't bring the Jan Lokpal bill in the Winter Session of Parliament," he said.
